Robert Blau, M.D. was born in Detroit and attended Detroit public schools, graduating from Mumford High School. After graduating from Wayne State University and Wayne State University School of Medicine he did a rotating internship and ophthalmology residency at Sinai Hospital of Detroit. He then went on to fellowship training in vitreo-retinal surgery at the University of Wisconsin. Since starting practice in 1973 he has continued to diagnose and treat complex retinal disorders. His interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, vascular abnormalities, retinal tears, retinal detachment, epiretinal membranes and macular edema. He participates in teaching medical students and residents as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. He is past Chairman of the division of Ophthalmology at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Oakland.
