If you want to see clearly without wearing glasses or contact lenses, consider LASIK eye surgery. However, not everyone is a good candidate for this surgery. At Michigan Eyecare Institute, we have been providing residents of Southfield, Livonia, and Dearborn, MI with reliable eye care services for many years. Our optometrist will assess your eyes to determine whether or not LASIK surgery is right for you.
Before you can get LASIK surgery, your eyes must be healthy. You will need an eye exam to ensure that your eyes are healthy enough for the surgery and your chances of experiencing complications are low. If you have glaucoma, dry eyes, cataracts, eye injuries, large pupils, or other eye health problems, you likely aren't a good candidate for LASIK surgery.
In addition to your eye health, there is also the question of how healthy you are in general. Many medical conditions can make the surgery less predictable and increase your chances of experiencing complications. If you have diabetes, a chronic pain condition, migraines, or immune system problems, you may not be a good candidate for LASIK surgery. If you take a medication that suppresses your immune system, you likely aren't a good candidate.
You also must have a stable vision prescription. If it changes every year, you would likely not have a good outcome with LASIK surgery. You must also be over 18, with many surgeons preferring patients to be at least 21 so that they have more stable vision.
If you are considering LASIK and think you might be a good candidate, contact Michigan Eyecare Institute today at (248) 352-2806.
