Signs Your Kids Might Have Vision Problems

If you suspect that your child may have a vision problem, it can be difficult to tell for sure. That's why your child needs annual eye exams to detect any problems with his eyesight. If your child needs a yearly vision exam, contact our eye doctors at Michigan Eyecare Institute in Southfield, Livonia, and Dearborn, MI. If your child has vision problems, it's best to tackle them early.

Headaches and Vision

One of the main symptoms of a vision problem is a headache. Your child may tell you that he has a headache or comes home from school with a headache. This occurs when a child has been straining his eyes to see and is experiencing vision problems. Often, a child’s ability to see a whiteboard in the classroom can be difficult.

Squinting

Along with headaches, you may notice your child squinting to see better. He may get so used to squinting that he doesn't realize that he's doing it. If you catch this behavior, you can ask your child about his vision when he isn't squinting and whether things look blurry or too far away to see.

Grades in School

Because it can be difficult to see the whiteboard, many children suffer from lower grades as their vision gets worse. Not being able to see well enough to read the board from across the room can lead to missed assignments and notes that he couldn't see to write down. If your child's grades are suddenly taking a dive, an eye exam may be in order.

Optometry Care for Children

Several eye problems can cause an issue with your child’s vision. Often it is simply nearsightedness, but it's important to perform a few tests to rule out anything more serious. If you suspect your child may have a vision problem, call Michigan Eyecare Institute today at (248) 352-2806. We have offices in Southfield, Livonia, and Dearborn to help your child see clearly.
